Wednesdays After School Trimester 1, 2021-2022
Meets on: Sep 8, 15, 22, 29, Oct 6, 13, 20, 27, Nov 3, 10, 17
What makes buildings stand up? Fall Down? Get smart?
We will explore the basic forces such as tension, compression, and buckling that make buildings, bridges and other structures stay up- or fall down. We will design and optimize the design of bridges using computer design software, then build and test models of bridges. We will design and build models of playground structures that incorporate geodesic domes, zip lines, and other features. We will design houses using computer-aided design software, and build physical architectural models. Finally, we will bring our structures into the 21st century, adding solar panels, energy storage, and ‘smart’ lights and security systems.
