What makes objects fly? How do you transform energy into motion? What are the differences, when it comes to mechanisms to lift off the ground and stay in the air, between a helicopter, a glider, and a drone? In this session, students will make prototypes of flying objects — and fly some drones — while learning about the physics of flying. We’ll also explore real-world applications of these devices, for example the Gloucester-based Ocean Alliance and its Snotbot, a drone that is changing the way we research whales.
