Acera’s Pop Up School returns for 2020-21 school year

For parents looking for a substantive and engaging virtual learning option during the continued need for social distancing, Acera’s Pop Up School is a fully remote program open to all students in grades 4-10. Families may register for one or more month-long sessions or for the full 2020-21 school year. Pop Up is separate from Acera’s Core School program; the mission, values, and pedagogies are shared, but program cohorts are separated to maintain the sense of community, integrity, and quality of both programs.

Built around high-engagement ideas, topics which matter to students, and interdisciplinary projects, Acera emphasizes critical thinking, problem solving, creativity, voice, and initiative. Pop Up School is designed to enable student growth in complex thinking, writing, and initiative in ways that fit each students’ abilities and interests, and that result in engaged and happy kids who are motivated to learn. Pop Up School was recently featured in CommonWealth Magazine.

Acera’s approach includes:

  • Live “Core Classroom” time for community building and classroom discussions, with inquiry-style learning, reflection, and sharing of ideas.
  • Individual or peer work time on writing, assignments, and projects. This includes individualized coaching, small group collaboration, and peer feedback in break out rooms.
  • Exercise requirements with online martial arts, strength, yoga and dance classes or outdoor activities.
  • On-line math tutorial, such as Aleks. Students can also continue with public school option.

Pop Up teachers are experienced educators – some of whom have 10 years of history with our school – embedded within Acera School’s professional community. Parents interested in meeting and speaking with Pop-Up School teachers may join one of our Parent Information Sessionsheld every Friday in August at noon. Parents who wish to schedule a private information session for a group may contact Acera at popup@aceraschool.org.
